Cinnamon is native to Sri Lanka, India, and Myanmar, where it has been harvested from the inner bark of tropical evergreen trees for thousands of years. It has a delicately sweet and spicy aroma and flavor. Currently also grown in parts of South America and the Caribbean. Ground cinnamon is used around the world to flavor baked goods like cinnamon rolls, coffee cakes, churros, and more. It also enhances the flavor of stews, curries, apples, squash, and chocolate. Scientists believe cinnamon contains the compound cinnamaldehyde, which gives it potent antioxidant effects and medicinal properties.
